In today's lesson, we will learn the differences between the 3 following expressions:
- près de (near)
- très près de (very close to)
- trop près de (too close to)
Nb : instead of "près de", we can also use "proche de".

It involves a proximity in space and in time
Example :
- Cet objet est près de la voiture.
This object is near the car.
très près (very close)[edit | edit source]
It involves an acceptable intensity.
Example :
- L'armoire est très près du mur - Mon appartement est très proche du centre-ville.
The wardrobe is very close to the wall - My apartment is very close to downtown.
trop près (too close)[edit | edit source]
It involves an excess.
Example :
- L'armoire est trop près du mur - la route est trop près du champ.
The wardrobe is too close to the wall - the road is too close to the field
