Proverbs

"Voyager par monts et par vaux"

  • Meaning: Travel everywhere, on all sides.

This expression indicates movements in all possible directions or to all known locations, whether through the mountains or valleys. "Vaux" is the plural of "Vau" (another ancient form of 'val'). That term appears in the fifteenth century and means "valley". "Monts" is also an old name for "Montains".

"Les voyages forment la jeunesse"
