French expressions using travel vocabulary

"Voyager par monts et par vaux"

Travel everywhere, on all sides.

This expression indicates movements in all possible directions or to all known locations, whether through the mountains or valleys. "Vaux" is the plural of "Vau" (another ancient form of 'val'). That term appears in the fifteenth century and means "valley". "Monts" is also an old name for "Montains".

This proverb means that travels allow you to discover other ways of living and thinking and are useful and even necessary to knowledge, initiation oreducation.
