  • les cheveux = hair
  • la tête = head
  • le visage = face
  • l'oreille = ear
  • le cou = neck
  • l'œil = eye
  • les yeux = eyes
  • le nez = nose
  • la joue = cheek
  • la bouche = mouth
  • la lèvre = lip
  • la dent = tooth

Common idioms

La tête = The head

  • Il ne sait plus où donner de la tête = He is overwhelmed
  • Il n'en fait qu'à sa tête = He does whatever he wants
  • Se creuser la tête = He thinks a lot
  • Il est parti sur un coup de tête = He went on a whim
  • Elle a la tête dans les étoiles = She is dreamy
  • C'est un prix à la tête du client = This is a different price according to customers

Les cheveux = The hair

  • Couper les cheveux en quatre. = Being fussy.
  • Il échoué à son examen d'un cheveu = He narrowly failed in his examination

Les yeux = The eyes

  • Faire les yeux doux = To make Googoo Eyes.
  • Se mettre le doigt dans l'œil = Be far off.
  • Faire quelque chose en un clin d'œil = Do something very quickly.
  • Obtenir quelque chose à l'œil = Get something for free.

Les oreilles = Ears

Les murs ont des oreilles = A malicious person could hear Dormir sur ses deux oreilles = sleep deeply Tirer les oreilles de quelqu'un = Scold someone

Le nez = The nose

  • Avoir un coup dans le nez = Drinking too much.
  • Avoir quelqu'un dans le nez = To feel animosity against somebody.
  • A vue de nez = A rule of thumb.
  • Tirer les vers du nez = Trying to get information from someone.

La bouche = The mouth

  • Arriver la bouche en cœur = arrive innocently
  • Mettre l'eau à la bouche = Make mouth water
  • Rester bouche cousue = Staying mum
