Expressions using Clothes vocabulary
"Trouver chaussure à son pied"
Find what we need.
The term is used for example to say that we find the man or woman that suits us.
Example : Il est marié, il a enfin trouvé chaussure à son pied !
"Comme cul et chemise"
People very linked and accomplices
This phrase simply expresses the close proximity or the inseparability of those as linked as the body and clothes.
Example : "Ils sont vraiment complices tous les deux. Ils sont comme "cul et chemise".
"Chapeau !"
Congratulations!, well done!
You can use it, for instance, to congratulate a friend who succeeded in a competition. However don't use it for a baby's birth or a marriage. Use it if you feel impressed of the person performance. It first was "Je vous lève le chapeau!". To salute the more noble people, one had to raise the hat and do a reverence. The expression remained as an expression of exceptional performance.
Example : Tu as eu 20/20 en Maths ? ... Chapeau !
