Marathi is an Indo-Aryan language spoken by Marathi people of Maharashtra, India. It is one of the 22 languages of India and has the third largest number of native speakers in India, after Hindi and Bengali.

Without learning the Marathi alphabets you will not be able to learn the Marathi language.

Therefore, it is very important to understand the basics of these alphabets first.

The Marathi language has 36 consonants(व्यंजन) letters, 14 vowels (स्वर) letters.

In the Marathi language, these alphabets are called as मराठी वर्णमाला, मराठी मुळाक्षरे and the Marathi is written in Devnagari, Balabodh (बाळबोध) script.
