Only definite articles exist in Maltese. It has 5 rules.

  1. 1: before a moon letter, it is il-.
  2. 2: before a sun letter, change the l to the first letter of the next word; it-t, for example.
  3. 3: with two consonants, add l-i because it sounds as if the i preceded the cluster at the start.
  4. 4: with vowels, , and H, i. e. a vowel sound, use l-.
  5. 5: if the previous word ends in a vowel, you don't need the vowels of the article, followed by the other 4 rules.

No indefinite articles!
