Only definite articles exist in Maltese. It has 5 rules.
- 1: before a moon letter, it is il-.
- 2: before a sun letter, change the l to the first letter of the next word; it-t, for example.
- 3: with two consonants, add l-i because it sounds as if the i preceded the cluster at the start.
- 4: with vowels, GĦ, and H, i. e. a vowel sound, use l-.
- 5: if the previous word ends in a vowel, you don't need the vowels of the article, followed by the other 4 rules.
No indefinite articles!
