Simple Past Tense Forms of Other Verbs (Negative) in Amharic

Note[edit | edit source]

To form the negative simple past, simply add the prefix al- and the suffix –m to the affirmative simple past tense.

  • ሄድኩ hedku Æ ሄድኩ አል- al- hedku –m Æ አልሄድኩም alhedkum
  • አየሁ ayyähu Æአል- al - አየሁ ayyähu –m Æ አላየሁም alayyähum

Note[edit | edit source]

if the first letter of the verb starts with a vowel, the next consonant changes to the fourth order.
