Northern Uzbek Grammar - How to Use "Be"

Hi Northern Uzbek learners! 😊
In this lesson, we will learn how to use the verb "be" in Northern Uzbek. We will look at the different forms of the verb and how to use them in sentences. We will also look at some examples of how to use the verb in context.

The verb "be" is used to describe a state or condition. It is used to describe a person's identity, location, or possession. In Northern Uzbek, the verb "be" is conjugated differently depending on the subject of the sentence.

The conjugation of the verb "be" in Northern Uzbek is as follows:

Northern Uzbek Pronunciation English Translation
ман man I am
син sin you are
олар olar they are
бу bu he/she is

Let's look at some examples of how to use the verb "be" in Northern Uzbek.

  • Person 1: Ман давомчим (Man davomchim) (I am a student)
  • Person 2: Син мустакил (Sin mustakil) (You are independent)
  • Person 1: Олар доиралар (Olar doirallar) (They are teachers)
  • Person 2: Бу ишлаб чиқаришда (Bu ishlab chiqarishda) (He/she is working)

In addition to describing a person's identity, location, or possession, the verb "be" can also be used to describe an action that is happening in the present. For example:

  • Person 1: Ман учун кутилмоқда (Man uchun kutilmoqda) (I am studying)
  • Person 2: Син кутилмоқда (Sin kutilmoqda) (You are studying)
  • Person 1: Олар кутилмоқда (Olar kutilmoqda) (They are studying)
  • Person 2: Бу кутилмоқда (Bu kutilmoqda) (He/she is studying)

The verb "be" can also be used to describe an action that is happening in the past. For example:

  • Person 1: Ман кечиктирмоқдаман (Man kechiktirmoqdaman) (I was studying)
  • Person 2: Син кечиктирмоқдаман (Sin kechiktirmoqdaman) (You were studying)
  • Person 1: Олар кечиктирмоқдаман (Olar kechiktirmoqdaman) (They were studying)
  • Person 2: Бу кечиктирмоқдаман (Bu kechiktirmoqdaman) (He/she was studying)
