Lithuanian Grammar - How to Use "Be"

In this lesson, we will learn how to use the verb "be" in Lithuanian. We will look at the conjugation of the verb and how it is used in different contexts. We will also look at some examples of sentences using the verb "be".

The verb "be" is one of the most important verbs in Lithuanian. It is used to express existence, identity, location, and other states. The verb "be" is conjugated differently depending on the subject of the sentence.

The conjugation of the verb "be" is as follows:

You esi (eh-see) esate (eh-sah-teh)
He/She/It yra (eera) yra (eera)
We esame (eh-sah-meh) esame (eh-sah-meh)

The verb "be" is used in many different contexts. Here are some examples of sentences using the verb "be":

  • Aš esu iš Lietuvos. (I am from Lithuania.)
  • Tu esi gera mergina. (You are a good girl.)
  • Jis yra mano draugas. (He is my friend.)
  • Mes esame draugai. (We are friends.)
  • Jūs esate laimingi. (You are happy.)
  • Jie yra mokytojai. (They are teachers.)

The verb "be" can also be used in questions. Here are some examples of questions using the verb "be":

  • Ar tu esi laimingas? (Are you happy?)
  • Ar jūs esate geros nuotaikos? (Are you in a good mood?)
  • Ar jie yra tavo draugai? (Are they your friends?)
