Hebrew Grammar - How to Use "Be"

In this lesson, we will learn how to use the verb "be" in Hebrew. We will look at the conjugation of the verb and how it is used in different contexts. We will also look at some examples of sentences using the verb "be".

The verb "be" in Hebrew is ื”ื™ื” (haya). It is an irregular verb, which means that it does not follow the same conjugation pattern as regular verbs. The conjugation of the verb "be" in Hebrew is as follows:

  • ื”ื•ื ื‘ืขื™ืจ (hu bayer) - He is in the city

The verb "be" can also be used to describe a person's possession. For example:

  • ืื ื™ ื™ื•ื“ืข (ani yodea) - I know
  • ื”ื•ื ื™ื•ื“ืข (hu yodea) - He knows

The verb "be" can also be used to describe a person's actions. For example:

  • ืื ื™ ืขื•ืฉื” (ani oseh) - I do
  • ื”ื•ื ืขื•ืฉื” (hu oseh) - He does

Dialogue:

  • Person 1: ืื ื™ ื™ืฉืจืืœื™ (ani yisraeli) - I am Israeli
  • Person 2: ืืชื” ืžื”ื ื“ืก? (ata mehahandes?) - Are you an engineer?
