Northern Uzbek Grammar - Future Tense

Hi Northern Uzbek learners! 😊
In this lesson, we will learn about the future tense in Northern Uzbek. We will look at how to form the future tense, as well as some examples of its use.

Forming the Future Tense

The future tense in Northern Uzbek is formed by adding the suffix -yap to the verb stem. This suffix is added to the end of the verb stem, regardless of the person or number. For example, the verb "to go" is yur- in the present tense, and becomes yuryap in the future tense.

The following table shows some examples of verbs in the present and future tenses:

Northern Uzbek Pronunciation English Translation
yur- yur to go
yuryap yuryap will go
o'q- o'q to read
o'qyap o'qyap will read
qo'y- qo'y to put
qo'yyap qo'yyap will put

Using the Future Tense

The future tense is used to talk about actions that will take place in the future. It can also be used to make predictions about the future.

For example:

  • Men yuryapman. (I will go.)
  • U o'qyapdi. (He will read.)
  • Biz qo'yyapmiz. (We will put.)
  • Kelin qo'yyapdi? (Will she put?)
  • O'qishimizga qo'yiladi. (It will be put to our reading.)

The future tense can also be used to express wishes or hopes for the future. For example:

  • Yuraylik! (Let's go!)
  • O'qaylik! (Let's read!)
  • Qo'yaylik! (Let's put!)
