Central Kurdish Grammar - Future Tense

Hi Central Kurdish learners! 😊
In this lesson, we will learn about the future tense in Central Kurdish. We will look at how to form sentences in the future tense and how to use them in everyday conversations.

The future tense is used to talk about events that will happen in the future. In Central Kurdish, the future tense is formed by adding the suffix -e to the verb stem. The verb stem is the part of the verb that remains after removing the infinitive ending -an. For example, the verb stem of the verb dîtin (to read) is dît. To form the future tense, the suffix -e is added to the verb stem, resulting in dîte.

The following table shows some examples of verbs in the future tense:

Central Kurdish Pronunciation English Translation
dîte di-te will read
bibîne bi-bi-ne will see
xwendin xwen-din will write
çûne çu-ne will go
kirin ki-rin will do

The future tense can also be used to express probability or likelihood. For example, if you are not sure if something will happen, you can use the future tense to express your uncertainty.

For example:

  • Ez dîte - I might read
  • Tu bibîne - You might see
  • Wî xwendin - He/she might write
  • Em çûne - We might go
  • Ew kirin - They might do

The future tense can also be used to make polite requests. For example:

  • Dîte? - Could you read?
  • Bibîne? - Could you see?
  • Xwendin? - Could you write?
  • Çûne? - Could you go?
  • Kirin? - Could you do?

The future tense can also be used to express wishes. For example:

  • Ez dîte - I wish I could read
  • Tu bibîne - You wish you could see
  • Wî xwendin - He/she wishes he/she could write
  • Em çûne - We wish we could go
  • Ew kirin - They wish they could do

Now that you know how to form sentences in the future tense, let's practice using them in everyday conversations.
