Telugu Grammar - Future Tense

Hi Telugu learners! 😊
In this lesson, we will learn about the future tense in Telugu. We will look at how to form sentences in the future tense, and how to use them in everyday conversations.

The future tense is used to talk about events that will happen in the future. In Telugu, the future tense is formed by adding the suffix కు (ku) to the verb stem. For example, the verb తెలుసు (telusu) means "to tell". To form the future tense of this verb, we add the suffix కు (ku) to the verb stem తెలుసు (telusu): తెలుసుకు (telusuku). This means "will tell".

Let's look at some examples of sentences in the future tense:

Telugu Pronunciation English Translation
నేను తెలుసుకు nenu telusuku I will tell
నీకు తెలుసుకు neeku telusuku You will tell
అవి తెలుసుకు avi telusuku He/She will tell
మనం తెలుసుకు manam telusuku We will tell
మీరు తెలుసుకు meeru telusuku You (plural) will tell
అవిరు తెలుసుకు aviruu telusuku They will tell

The future tense can also be used to talk about events that are likely to happen in the future. For example, if you want to say "I will probably go to the movies tomorrow", you can say నేను ఎవరు చూస్తున్నాను తర్వాత చిత్రాలకు వెళ్ళింది (nenu evaru choostunnanu tarvaat chitraalaku velliindi).

To make a sentence negative, you can add the word కాదు (kaadu) after the verb. For example, if you want to say "I will not tell", you can say నేను తెలుసుకు కాదు (nenu telusuku kaadu).
