Sindhi Grammar - Negation

Hi Sindhi learners! ๐Ÿ˜Š
In this lesson, we will learn about negation in the Sindhi language. Negation is a way of expressing the opposite of something. It is an important part of any language and it is essential to understand how to use it correctly.

Negation is expressed in Sindhi by adding the suffix -naa to the verb. This suffix changes the meaning of the verb from affirmative to negative. For example, the verb "to do" in Sindhi is karoon. To make it negative, we add the suffix -naa, so it becomes karoon-naa, which means "not to do".

The following table shows some examples of verbs in their affirmative and negative forms:

Sindhi Pronunciation English Translation
ฺฉุฑูˆู† karoon to do
ฺฉุฑูˆู†-ู†ุง karoon-naa not to do
ุณู†ูˆู† sunoon to hear
ุณู†ูˆู†-ู†ุง sunoon-naa not to hear
ุฌูŠู†ุฏูˆู† jaindoon to go
ุฌูŠู†ุฏูˆู†-ู†ุง jaindoon-naa not to go

It is important to note that the suffix -naa is only used with verbs. It cannot be used with nouns or adjectives. For example, the word for "good" in Sindhi is acha. To make it negative, we cannot simply add the suffix -naa, as it would not make sense. Instead, we must use the word bada, which means "not good".

The following table shows some examples of nouns and adjectives in their affirmative and negative forms:

Sindhi Pronunciation English Translation
ุงฺ†ุง acha good
ุจุฏุง bada not good
ูพฺ™ู‡ูˆ pareho same
ู†ุฆูˆู† nain different
ุณฺ€ sath true
ุฌฺพูˆูฝ jhoot not true

It is also important to note that the suffix -naa can be used with other words to form negative sentences. For example, the word for "I" in Sindhi is mein. To make it negative, we can add the suffix -naa, so it becomes mein-naa, which means "I don't".

The following table shows some examples of sentences in their affirmative and negative forms:

Sindhi Pronunciation English Translation
ู…ูŠู† ฺฉุฑูˆู† mein karoon I do
ู…ูŠู†-ู†ุง ฺฉุฑูˆู† mein-naa karoon I don't do
ุชูˆ ฺ†ู„ูˆ tu chalu you go
ุชูˆ-ู†ุง ฺ†ู„ูˆ tu-naa chalu you don't go
ูˆูŠ ฺฉูˆู†ุฏูˆ ve koundo he can
ูˆูŠ-ู†ุง ฺฉูˆู†ุฏูˆ ve-naa koundo he can't

As you can see, negation is an important part of the Sindhi language and it is essential to understand how to use it correctly. With practice and dedication, you will soon be able to use it confidently in your conversations.
