Corsican Grammar - Plurals

Hi Corsican learners!😊
Learning Corsican Grammar can be a challenge, but with the right approach and dedication, you can master it in no time!

Introduction

In this lesson, we will be looking at the basics of Corsican plurals. We will cover the rules for forming plurals, as well as some common exceptions.

Regular Plurals

The most common way to form plurals in Corsican is by adding the suffix -i to the end of the word. For example:

  • casa (house) becomes case (houses)
  • pianu (floor) becomes piani (floors)
  • amica (friend) becomes amichi (friends)

However, there are some exceptions to this rule.

Exceptions

Some words ending in -a, -e, or -u do not take the -i suffix. Instead, they take the suffix -e. For example:

  • manu (hand) becomes mane (hands)
  • idea (idea) becomes idee (ideas)
  • lingua (language) becomes lingue (languages)

There are also some words that take the suffix -a instead of -i or -e. For example:

  • cavallu (horse) becomes cavalla (horses)
  • frutta (fruit) becomes frutta (fruits)
  • stella (star) becomes stelle (stars)

Finally, there are some words that do not change at all when forming the plural. For example:

  • occhi (eye) becomes occhi (eyes)
  • denti (tooth) becomes denti (teeth)
  • figliu (son) becomes figliu (sons)
