What are Plurals?

Plurals are words that refer to more than one person, place, or thing. In Tatar, plurals are formed by adding suffixes to the end of nouns. The suffixes used depend on the gender and number of the noun.

Masculine Nouns

Masculine nouns in Tatar take the suffix -lar when forming plurals. For example, the word for "man" is adam, and the plural form is adamlar.

Feminine Nouns

Feminine nouns in Tatar take the suffix -ları when forming plurals. For example, the word for "woman" is qadın, and the plural form is qadınları.

Neuter Nouns

Neuter nouns in Tatar take the suffix -lər when forming plurals. For example, the word for "book" is kitab, and the plural form is kitablər.

Exceptions

There are some exceptions to the rules for forming plurals in Tatar. Some nouns take different suffixes depending on their meaning. For example, the word for "child" is uşaq, and the plural form is uşaqlar.

In addition, some nouns do not change at all when forming plurals. For example, the word for "person" is insan, and the plural form is also insan.
