Bengali Grammar - Plurals

Welcome to the Bengali Grammar lesson on Plurals! In this lesson, you will learn how to form plurals in Bengali. Plurals are an important part of any language, and understanding them is essential for speaking and writing correctly.

Overview

In Bengali, there are two types of plurals: regular and irregular. Regular plurals are formed by adding a suffix to the singular form of the word, while irregular plurals are formed by changing the stem of the word.

Regular Plurals

Regular plurals are formed by adding a suffix to the singular form of the word. The most common suffixes used to form regular plurals are -গুলো (gulo) and -গুলি (guli).

For example, the singular form of the word পাতা (pata) is পাতা (pata). To form the plural, we add the suffix -গুলো (gulo): পাতাগুলো (patagulo).

The suffix -গুলি (guli) is used to form plurals of words ending in a consonant. For example, the singular form of the word শিক্ষার্থী (shikkharthee) is শিক্ষার্থী (shikkharthee). To form the plural, we add the suffix -গুলি (guli): শিক্ষার্থীগুলি (shikkhartheeguli).

Irregular Plurals

Irregular plurals are formed by changing the stem of the word. For example, the singular form of the word মানুষ (manush) is মানুষ (manush). To form the plural, we change the stem of the word: মানুষদের (manushder).

Another example is the singular form of the word গাছ (gachh) is গাছ (gachh). To form the plural, we change the stem of the word: গাছগুলো (gachhgulo).
