Romanian Grammar - How to Ask Questions

Hi Romanian learners! 😊
In today's lesson, we will be discussing how to ask questions in Romanian. Asking questions is an important part of any language, and it can be tricky to get the hang of it. But don't worry, with a bit of practice you'll be able to ask questions like a native speaker in no time!

Types of Questions

In Romanian, there are two types of questions: direct and indirect. Direct questions are those that are asked directly, while indirect questions are those that are asked indirectly.

Direct Questions

Direct questions are those that are asked directly, without any additional words or phrases. They usually begin with a question word such as "ce" (what), "când" (when), "de ce" (why), or "cum" (how).

For example:

  • Ce faci? (What are you doing?)
  • Când pleci? (When are you leaving?)
  • De ce ai plecat? (Why did you leave?)
  • Cum te simti? (How are you feeling?)

Indirect Questions

Indirect questions are those that are asked indirectly, using additional words or phrases. They usually begin with a phrase such as "pot sa te intreb" (can I ask you) or "mi-ar putea spune cineva" (could someone tell me).

For example:

  • Pot sa te intreb ce faci? (Can I ask what you are doing?)
  • Mi-ar putea spune cineva când pleci? (Could someone tell me when you are leaving?)
  • Pot sa te intreb de ce ai plecat? (Can I ask why you left?)
  • Mi-ar putea spune cineva cum te simti? (Could someone tell me how you are feeling?)

Practice

Now that you know the basics of asking questions in Romanian, it's time to practice! Try asking your friends and family questions in Romanian, and see if they can answer them correctly. You can also try writing down some questions and then answering them yourself. This will help you to get a better understanding of how to ask questions in Romanian.
