Kashmiri Grammar - Adjectives

Hi Kashmiri learners! 😊
In today's lesson, we will be discussing adjectives in the Kashmiri language. Adjectives are words that describe or modify other words, usually nouns or pronouns. They can be used to give more information about a person, place, thing, or idea. In this lesson, we will look at how adjectives are used in Kashmiri and how they can be used to make your sentences more interesting and descriptive.

Types of Adjectives

Adjectives can be divided into two main categories: descriptive adjectives and possessive adjectives. Descriptive adjectives are used to describe the qualities of something, while possessive adjectives are used to show ownership or possession. Let's look at each type of adjective in more detail.

Descriptive Adjectives

Descriptive adjectives are used to describe the qualities of something. They can be used to describe physical characteristics, such as size, shape, color, or texture. They can also be used to describe emotional states, such as happiness, sadness, anger, or fear. Examples of descriptive adjectives in Kashmiri include:

  • chhota (small)
  • bada (big)
  • gora (white)
  • kala (black)
  • sukoon (calm)
  • khush (happy)

Possessive Adjectives

Possessive adjectives are used to show ownership or possession. They are usually placed before the noun they are describing. Examples of possessive adjectives in Kashmiri include:

  • mera (my)
  • tera (your)
  • uska (his/her)
  • hamara (our)
  • apna (your own)

Using Adjectives

Adjectives can be used in a variety of ways in Kashmiri. They can be used to describe nouns, pronouns, and even verbs. Let's look at some examples of how adjectives can be used in Kashmiri sentences:

  • Chhota sa ghar hai. (It is a small house.)
  • Usne khush hoke kaha. (He said happily.)
  • Hamara naya car hai. (It is our new car.)
  • Apni zindagi ko sukoon se jiyo. (Live your life peacefully.)

As you can see, adjectives can be used to add more information and make your sentences more interesting and descriptive. So, the next time you are speaking or writing in Kashmiri, don't forget to use adjectives!
