Chti, also called ch'ti, ch'timi, chtimi or patois du Nord, is originally the Picardy language of oïl spoken in the mining area of ​​Nord-Pas-de-Calais and in Lille. By extension, chti is also the name given to any kind of Picard spoken in the Nord-Pas-de-Calais region.


Ch'ti is a dialect of Picard. Picard is a language which originated from the langue d'oïl once spoken in the north of Gallo-Roman Gaul then Frankish. It evolved from Vulgar Latin which came from the Roman invasions and from the Germanic language of the Franks in the 5th century.
