Types of Verbs in Georgian
The markers of the subject and the object both are exposed in the verb, as we already have seen.
There are four types of verbs in Georgian:
One-personal (with only a subject) intransitives
I go მივდივარ (მე) I come მოვდივარ (მე) The subject is always in the nominative case.
Two-personal (with a subject and direct object) intransitives
- I know him/her ვიცნობ (მე მას)
The subject is always in the nominative case and the indirect object is always dative.
Two-personal (with a subject and direct object) transitives
- I paint him/her/it ვხატავ (მე მას) – present tense
- I painted him/her/it დავხატე (მე ის) – past tense
Three-personal (with a subject, direct and indirect object) transitives
- I paint him/her/it for him/her ვუხატავ (მე მას მას)
- I telling him/her it ვუამბობ (მე მას მას)
