Makeup is the stuff that is usually used by women to enhance their appearance.

Some common vocabulary words for makeup are:

NOUNS

  • Blush - what is applied to cheeks in order to give them a reddish/pinkish hue
  • Mascara - applied to eyelashes to make them appear longer and darker
  • Eyeshadow - comes in a wide variety of colors, applied to eyelid in order to frame and accentuate the eye
  • Eyeliner - usually dark and applied near the lash line
  • Kohl liner - Dark eyeliner that comes in pencil shape
  • Contour - applied where the shadows of the face in order to create a thinner and sharper face shape
  • Bronzer - applied where the sun hits in order to look tanned
  • Lipstick - applied onto the lips
  • Chapstick - applied onto the lips to hydrate and moisturize
  • Liquid Lipstick - Lipstick that comes in a container similar to mascara; comes liquid, dries solid
  • Liquid Eyeliner - Eyeliner that has a consistency near that of water; applied with a brush
  • Gel Eyeliner - Eyeliner that is thicker in consistency than liquid and comes in a pot
  • Cream Eyeshadow - Eyeshadow that is creamier in texture
  • Brow pomade - applied to the brows to fill them in, gel-like in texture
  • Brow gel - applied on brows similar to how mascara is applied; finishes the eyebrows and holds them in place
  • Lip gloss - applied on lips to make them look wet
  • Setting powder - applied on the face at the end in order to make the makeup last all day
  • Setting Spray - applied on the face at the end in order to make the makeup last, however this comes in a liquid/spray form
  • Primer - applied before makeup to make the makeup last and look nice
  • Eyelash curler - used to bend/curl lashes so they look longer
  • Highlighter - applied to the areas where light hits in order to give someone a glowing appearance

  • To contour - to put on contour
  • To bronze - to put on bronzer
  • To set - to use setting spray or powder and finish off the makeup
  • To apply - to put on
  • To line - to use eyeliner
  • To highlight - to put on highlighter
