Northern Kurdish Grammar - Gender

Hi Northern Kurdish learners! 😊
In this lesson, we will learn about the gender rules in Northern Kurdish. We will look at the different genders and how to identify them. We will also look at some examples and practice using the gender rules. Finally, we will have a quiz to test your understanding. Let's get started!

Rules

In Northern Kurdish, there are three genders: masculine, feminine, and neuter. The gender of a noun is usually determined by its ending.

Masculine nouns usually end in -a or -e. For example, dost (friend) is masculine, and doste (friends) is also masculine.

Feminine nouns usually end in -i or -î. For example, xwendin (student) is feminine, and xwendinên (students) is also feminine.

Neuter nouns usually end in -an or -ên. For example, çav (eye) is neuter, and çavan (eyes) is also neuter.
