Nouns – English Grammar

Nouns are words used to designate beings, people, animals, objects, places or more abstract notions.

A noun can be subject or object in a sentence.

It is often accompanied by an article or a determinant and it may be completed with an adjective.

Nouns can also sometimes be replaced by pronouns.

Nouns are divided into common nouns and proper nouns.

Common Nouns

Common nouns are words for people, animals, places, or things.

Proper Nouns

Proper nouns are names for particular people, places or things. They always begin with a capital letter.
