However, once you grasp the basic rules, it's easy to use them correctly. In this lesson, we will cover everything you need to know about forming superlatives in Belarusian.

What are superlatives?
Superlatives are used to describe something that is at the extreme end of a spectrum, either in a positive or negative sense. For example, "This is the best cup of coffee I've ever had" or "That was the worst movie I've ever seen." In Belarusian, we use superlatives to compare three or more things.
Forming superlatives
To form a superlative in Belarusian, we use the word "най" (nay), which means "the most." We add it to the beginning of the adjective and change the ending of the adjective to match the gender and number of the noun being modified.
Here are some examples:

Exceptions
There are a few exceptions to the rule when forming superlatives.
For adjectives with one syllable, we add the endings "-ш-" for masculine singular, "-шая" for feminine singular, and "-шае" for neutral singular. For example:
