Negative Pronouns in Armenian
The following are the negative pronouns of the Armenian language.
Here are six sentences that use negative pronouns:
- Նրանցից ոչ մեկը չի վերադարձել: None of them have returned.
- Դու դրանցից ոչ մեկը չես սիրում։ You do not like any of them.
- Նրան երբեք ոչինչ չի գոհացնում: Nothing ever pleases him.
- Իր աշխատանքի համար նա ոչինչ չստացավ։ She did not receive anything for her work.
- Երբ լույսը անջատեցին, ես ոչ ոքի չէի տեսնում: When they turned off the light, I couldn’t see anyone.
- Ոչ մի բանից մի՛ խուսափիր։ Do not avoid anything.
As is evident from examples, double negative is used in Armenian. Thus we write “Ոչ ոք չի քնում։” and not “Ոչ ոք է քնում.” Often other words are used for “բան” in “ինչ-որ մի բան”, “ոչ մի բան” and “որևէ բան.”
