Tosk Albanian Grammar - Pronouns

Hi Tosk Albanian learners! 😊
In today's lesson, we will be discussing the basics of Tosk Albanian pronouns. We will look at the different types of pronouns, how they are used in sentences, and some examples of their usage. By the end of this lesson, you should have a good understanding of Tosk Albanian pronouns.

Types of Pronouns

Pronouns are words that can be used to replace nouns in a sentence. In Tosk Albanian, there are three main types of pronouns: personal, possessive, and demonstrative.

Personal Pronouns

Personal pronouns are used to refer to people or things. They can be either singular or plural, and they can be either first, second, or third person.

  • First person singular: unë (I)
  • First person plural: ne (we)
  • Second person singular: ti (you)
  • Second person plural: ju (you)
  • Third person singular: ai/ajo (he/she)
  • Third person plural: ata/ato (they)

Possessive Pronouns

Possessive pronouns are used to show ownership or possession. They can also be either singular or plural, and they can be either first, second, or third person.

  • First person singular: im (my)
  • First person plural: jonë (our)
  • Second person singular: yt (your)
  • Second person plural: juaj (your)
  • Third person singular: i/e (his/her)
  • Third person plural: tyre (their)

Demonstrative Pronouns

Demonstrative pronouns are used to point out specific people or things. They can be either singular or plural, and they can be either near or far.

  • Near singular: ky (this)
  • Near plural: këta (these)
  • Far singular: ai (that)
  • Far plural: ata (those)

Usage

Pronouns can be used in place of nouns in a sentence. For example, if you wanted to say "I am going to the store", you could use the pronoun "unë" instead of saying "I".

Unë po shkoj në dyqan. (I am going to the store.)

Pronouns can also be used to show possession. For example, if you wanted to say "My book is on the table", you could use the possessive pronoun "im" instead of saying "my".

Libri im është mbi tryezë. (My book is on the table.)

Finally, pronouns can be used to point out specific people or things. For example, if you wanted to say "This is my friend", you could use the demonstrative pronoun "ky" instead of saying "this".

Ky është miku im. (This is my friend.)
