Turkmen Grammar - Future Tense

Hi Turkmen learners! 😊
In this lesson, we will learn about the future tense in Turkmen. We will look at how to form the future tense, as well as some examples of its use.

The future tense in Turkmen is formed using the verb stem and the suffix -er. The verb stem is the part of the verb that remains when the infinitive ending -mak is removed. For example, the verb stem of the verb ýazmak (to write) is ýaz.

To form the future tense, add the suffix -er to the verb stem. For example, the future tense of ýazmak (to write) is ýazer.

The future tense can be used to express a variety of meanings, including:

  • Making predictions or assumptions about the future
  • Expressing intentions or plans
  • Expressing willingness or ability

Here are some examples of the future tense in action:

Turkmen Pronunciation English Translation
Men ýazerin. mehn yah-zeh-reen I will write.
Ol ýazarmy? ohl yah-zahr-mee Will he write?
Men ýazarym. mehn yah-zah-reem I will write.
Ol ýazarmyka? ohl yah-zahr-mee-kah Will he write?
Men ýazaryn. mehn yah-zah-reen I will write.

It's important to note that the future tense is not used to express habitual actions. For example, if you want to say "I write every day", you would use the present tense, not the future tense.

Now that you know how to form the future tense in Turkmen, let's practice! Try translating the following sentences into Turkmen:

1. I will go. 2. Will you come? 3. He will read. 4. Will she speak?

Answers:

1. Men bararyn. 2. Sen gelermi? 3. Ol okar. 4. Ol sözlemi?

Congratulations! You now know how to form the future tense in Turkmen. With practice, you'll be able to use it confidently in your conversations.
