Greetings in French

To say hello in French you have 2 possibilities:


  1. If you already know the person you can say: salut !
  2. If you don't know the person you have to say: bonjour !

Some Greetings

Bonjour ! A polite way to say good morning , good day in French
Hello ! Most common way to say hello in French
Salut ! Hi : Greeting friends and family
Coucou ! Use hey! with all  friends and family. 
Bonsoir ! When you greet someone with “Hello” in French in the evening.
Allô ? Hello in French, but only spelled phonetically.
Goodbye Rebonjour ! Hello again“ If you’ve already said hello to someone and run into them again.
Ça va? How’s it going?”  approximation to say like “does it go?”
Enchanté(e) ! Pleased to meet you after you greet someone
Faire la bise ! Faire la bise means to kiss someone on the cheek or cheeks
Quoi de neuf ? Literally means “what's new?”.
Au revoir Goodbye, a formula used to another person or persons when person addressed is departing.
