时间 (Shíjiān) - Time

In this lesson, you will learn how to tell the time, the days of the week, and months in Turkish.

Hours

Turkish uses a 12-hour clock system, similar to Mandarin Chinese. However, the Turkish language uses different words for the periods of time before and after noon.

For example, to say "it is 1 o'clock" in Turkish, you would say "saat bir" (小时一). To say "it is 1 o'clock in the afternoon," you would say "öğleden sonra saat bir" (下午一点钟).

Here are some examples of how to tell the time in Turkish:

Turkish Pronunciation Mandarin Chinese Translation
saat bir saht beer 小时一
saat iki saht ee-kee 小时二
saat on iki saht ohn ee-kee 小时十二
saat dokuz saht doh-kooz 小时九

Days of the Week

Turkish days of the week are named after celestial bodies, similar to Mandarin Chinese.

Here are the days of the week in Turkish:

  • Pazartesi (星期一 xīngqīyī)
  • Salı (星期二 xīngqī'èr)
  • Çarşamba (星期三 xīngqīsān)
  • Perşembe (星期四 xīngqīsì)
  • Cuma (星期五 xīngqīwǔ)
  • Cumartesi (星期六 xīngqīliù)
  • Pazar (星期日 xīngqīrì)

Months

Turkish months are named after their Latin equivalents, similar to Mandarin Chinese.

Here are the months of the year in Turkish:

  1. Ocak (一月 yī yuè)
  2. Şubat (二月 èr yuè)
  3. Mart (三月 sān yuè)
  4. Nisan (四月 sì yuè)
  5. Mayıs (五月 wǔ yuè)
  6. Haziran (六月 liù yuè)
  7. Temmuz (七月 qī yuè)
  8. Ağustos (八月 bā yuè)
  9. Eylül (九月 jiǔ yuè)
  10. Ekim (十月 shí yuè)
  11. Kasım (十一月 shíyī yuè)
  12. Aralık (十二月 shí'èr yuè)

Useful Phrases

Here are some useful phrases that will help you tell the time in Turkish:

  • Şu an saat kaç? (现在几点了? Xiànzài jǐ diǎnle?) - What time is it?
  • Öğlen kaçta yemek yiyeceğiz? (中午几点吃饭? Zhōngwǔ jǐ diǎn chīfàn?) - What time will we eat lunch?

Congratulations! You have now learned how to tell the time, days of the week, and months in Turkish.
