Cases of the subject and direct object with transitive verbs in Georgian

In transitive verbs the subject is nominative in present and in future tenses, but it’s ergative in past tense:

კაცი მგელს ხატავს. (present)

კაცმა მგელი დახატა. (past)

კაცი მგელს დახატავს. (future)

In transitive verbs the direct object is in the dative case in present and in future tenses, but it’s nominative in past tense:

კაცი მგელს ხატავს. (present)

კაცმა მგელი დახატა. (past)

კაცი მგელს დახატავს. (future)

Direct object is in genitive with infinitive form preceding it:

მგლის დახატვა to paint / painting a wolf

წერილის დაწერა to write / writing a letter
