Japanese calligraphy is an ancestral art.
It is considered as a way to reach the Buddha, because it requires a lot of calm and concentration.
The original name is 書道 / しょどう (shodou).
To make calligraphy you need the following tools:

| 墨 / すみ (Sumi) | Ink |
| 紙 / かみ (Kami) | Paper |
| 硯 / すずり (Suzuri) | Inkpot |

| 文鎮 / ぶんちん(Bunchin) | Paperweight |
