==Forming Sentences in the Future Tense==
The future tense in Nepali (individual language) is formed by adding the suffix -हो to the verb stem. For example, the verb stem for 'to go' is जान्छु, so the future tense of 'to go' is जान्छोहो.

The future tense can also be formed by using the auxiliary verb होला. This is done by conjugating the verb होला into the present tense and then adding the verb stem after it. For example, the verb stem for 'to eat' is खान्छु, so the future tense of 'to eat' is होला खान्छोहो.

Nepali (individual language) Grammar - Future Tense

Hi Nepali (individual language) learners! 😊
In this lesson, we will learn about the future tense in Nepali (individual language) grammar. The future tense is used to talk about events that will happen in the future. Let's dive in!

Once you've mastered this lesson, take a look at these related pages: Future Tense in Nepali & Negation.

Forming the Future Tense[edit | edit source]

To form the future tense, we use the auxiliary verb "हुने" (hune) which means "to happen". We add this verb after the root verb. Here's the formula: "Root verb + हुने"

Let's take some examples to understand it better:

Nepali (individual language) Pronunciation English
खाना हुने khana hune will eat
देख्ने हुने dekhne hune will see
पढ्ने हुने padhne hune will read

Using the Future Tense[edit | edit source]

Now that we know how to form the future tense, let's see how we can use it. We use the future tense in Nepali (individual language) grammar to talk about events that will happen in the future. Here are some examples:

  • तिमीलाई के खाना छ? (timilai ke khana cha?) - What will you eat?
  • म के गर्ने? (ma ke garne?) - What will I do?
  • सबैलाई घर फर्केर बाटोमा धेरै चढाई लाग्ने छ (sabailai ghar farkera bato ma dherai chadhai lagnai cha) - Everybody will have to climb a lot after returning home.

Exceptions[edit | edit source]

There are some exceptional cases where we use the future tense differently in Nepali (individual language) grammar. For instance, in the case of "will not", we use "हुँदैन" (hudain) instead of "हुने" (hune) and add it after the root verb. Here's an example:

  • म कुनै छान किन्दैन (ma kunai chaa kinain) - I will not buy anything good.

Dialogue[edit | edit source]

Here's a dialogue to help you see the future tense in action:

  • Person 1: तपाईं के खानु हुन्छ? (tapai ke khannu huncha?) - What will you eat?
  • Person 2: म सेकुवा खाने हुन्छु (ma sekwa khane hunchhu) - I will eat Sekuwa.

Culture and Interesting Facts[edit | edit source]

Did you know that Nepali (individual language) grammar does not have a separate form for the future tense? We use the auxiliary verb "हुने" (hune) to indicate that an action will happen in the future. Nepali (individual language) is the official language of Nepal and is also spoken in India, Bhutan, and Burma.

To improve your Nepali (individual language) grammar, you can also use the Polyglot Club website. Find native speakers and ask them any questions!
