Nepali (individual language) Grammar - Future Tense

Hi Nepali (individual language) learners! ЁЯШК
In this lesson, we will learn about the future tense in Nepali (individual language) grammar. The future tense is used to talk about events that will happen in the future. Let's dive in!

Once you've mastered this lesson, take a look at these related pages: Future Tense in Nepali & Negation.

Forming the Future Tense[edit | edit source]

To form the future tense, we use the auxiliary verb "рд╣реБрдиреЗ" (hune) which means "to happen". We add this verb after the root verb. Here's the formula: "Root verb + рд╣реБрдиреЗ"

Let's take some examples to understand it better:

Nepali (individual language) Pronunciation English
рдЦрд╛рдирд╛ рд╣реБрдиреЗ khana hune will eat
рджреЗрдЦреНрдиреЗ рд╣реБрдиреЗ dekhne hune will see
рдкрдвреНрдиреЗ рд╣реБрдиреЗ padhne hune will read

Using the Future Tense[edit | edit source]

Now that we know how to form the future tense, let's see how we can use it. We use the future tense in Nepali (individual language) grammar to talk about events that will happen in the future. Here are some examples:

  • рддрд┐рдореАрд▓рд╛рдИ рдХреЗ рдЦрд╛рдирд╛ рдЫ? (timilai ke khana cha?) - What will you eat?
  • рдо рдХреЗ рдЧрд░реНрдиреЗ? (ma ke garne?) - What will I do?
  • рд╕рдмреИрд▓рд╛рдИ рдШрд░ рдлрд░реНрдХреЗрд░ рдмрд╛рдЯреЛрдорд╛ рдзреЗрд░реИ рдЪрдврд╛рдИ рд▓рд╛рдЧреНрдиреЗ рдЫ (sabailai ghar farkera bato ma dherai chadhai lagnai cha) - Everybody will have to climb a lot after returning home.

Exceptions[edit | edit source]

There are some exceptional cases where we use the future tense differently in Nepali (individual language) grammar. For instance, in the case of "will not", we use "рд╣реБрдБрджреИрди" (hudain) instead of "рд╣реБрдиреЗ" (hune) and add it after the root verb. Here's an example:

  • рдо рдХреБрдиреИ рдЫрд╛рди рдХрд┐рдиреНрджреИрди (ma kunai chaa kinain) - I will not buy anything good.

Dialogue[edit | edit source]

Here's a dialogue to help you see the future tense in action:

  • Person 1: рддрдкрд╛рдИрдВ рдХреЗ рдЦрд╛рдиреБ рд╣реБрдиреНрдЫ? (tapai ke khannu huncha?) - What will you eat?
  • Person 2: рдо рд╕реЗрдХреБрд╡рд╛ рдЦрд╛рдиреЗ рд╣реБрдиреНрдЫреБ (ma sekwa khane hunchhu) - I will eat Sekuwa.

Culture and Interesting Facts[edit | edit source]

Did you know that Nepali (individual language) grammar does not have a separate form for the future tense? We use the auxiliary verb "рд╣реБрдиреЗ" (hune) to indicate that an action will happen in the future. Nepali (individual language) is the official language of Nepal and is also spoken in India, Bhutan, and Burma.
