As a complete beginner in Northern Kurdish, the first thing you need to know is the Northern Kurdish alphabet and its pronunciation. Although this may be daunting at first, it is important to learn the alphabet and pronunciation so you can begin forming words and phrases in Northern Kurdish. In this lesson, we will go over each letter of the Northern Kurdish alphabet and provide you with its pronunciation.

The Northern Kurdish Alphabet

The Northern Kurdish alphabet consists of 34 letters. Here are the letters of the Northern Kurdish alphabet in the order they appear:

Vowels

Northern Kurdish has five vowels: a, e, i, o, and u. All vowels are pronounced.

Consonants

Consonants are pronounced generally as they are in English, with a few exceptions. The letters ت, د, ذ, ر, ز, س, ش, ص, ض, ط, ع, غ, ف, ق, ک, ل, م, ن, ھ, ه, and و are pronounced similar to their English counterparts. It's important to note that the letters خ, ح, ج, چ, and پ may take some practice to pronounce as they have unique sounds in Northern Kurdish.
