Prepositions

In Yue Chinese, prepositions are used to indicate the relationship between a noun or pronoun and other elements in a sentence. The most common prepositions used for location and direction are《喺》, 《喺度》, 《喺咗》, 《喺度咗》, 《係》, 《係度》, 《係咗》, 《係度咗》. Here are some examples:

Yue Chinese Pronunciation English

喺咗 hai2 zo2 in
係度 hai6 dou6 at
hai6 is, am, are
  • Use 《喺》 or 《喺度》 to indicate "at" a certain location. For example, "我喺度等你" (ngo5 hai2 dou6 dang2 nei5) means "I am waiting for you here".
  • Use 《喺咗》 or 《喺度咗》 to indicate "in" a certain location. For example, "我喺到咗" (ngo5 hai2 dou3 zo2) means "I am in here".

There are many other prepositions in Yue Chinese that are used for other purposes. Some of them include 《同》(tung4) meaning "with", 《由》(jau4) meaning "from", 《越嚟越》(yuet6 lei4 yuet6) meaning "more and more", and many more.

Conjunctions

The most common conjunctions used in Yue Chinese for joining sentences are 《同》(tung4), 《但係》(daan6 hai6), 《或者》(waak6 ze2), 《所以》(so2 ji5). Here are some examples:
