Kannada Proverbs on Drinks[edit | edit source]

In Kannada culture, there are some proverbs related to drinks. Here are a few examples:

(Huri dIpadalli nelasi koléttiddare, huri gaddadalli nIru hAyisuvádu.) - Meaning: "If one lives in a place where a lamp is bright but filled with soot, one ends up drinking water from a muddy stream."
(Joteyalli bIrU kuḍiyuva hudugarannu parityAgamADi bRanḍige hOguvavaru yArU illa.) - Meaning: "No one abandons children who drink beer and goes over to brandy.”

Cultural Insight[edit | edit source]

Kannada's traditional drink, largely consumed in the rural areas, is "Maajjige" - a variation of "lassi" that is commonly made in North India. Maajjige is made by blending yogurt, water, and a few spices. Maajjige is a healthy drink as it cools down the body and aids digestion.
