Overview[edit | edit source]

The conditional mood is used to express a hypothetical situation or a future event that is dependent on another condition. It is also used to express wishes or requests. In Fijian, the conditional mood is formed by adding the suffix -va to the verb stem.

Formation[edit | edit source]

The conditional mood is formed by adding the suffix -va to the verb stem. For example, the verb "tiko" (to go) becomes "tikova" in the conditional mood.

Irregular Verbs[edit | edit source]

There are some irregular verbs in Fijian which have different forms in the conditional mood. For example, the verb "vosa" (to speak) becomes "vosataka" in the conditional mood.

Usage[edit | edit source]

The conditional mood is used to express a hypothetical situation or a future event that is dependent on another condition. For example:

  • "Au sa qai tiko e dua na ka au sa kila kina" - I would stay if I knew something.
  • "Au na vosataka mada na ka au sa kila" - I would speak about what I know.

It is also used to express wishes or requests. For example:

  • "Meu lako mai vei iko" - I wish you would come.
  • "Meu vosataka mada na ka au sa kila" - I wish I could speak about what I know.

Conclusion[edit | edit source]

In this lesson, we discussed the conditional mood in Fijian. We looked at how it is formed and how it is used. We hope that this lesson has helped you to gain a better understanding of the conditional mood in Fijian.
