The locative case is used to denote the area where action takes place and usually functions as the English preposition “in.” The locative case is formed by adding "ում" to a noun in the nominative case.
 
1) Նա ապրում է Ապարանում։ He lives in Aparan.
 
 
2) Մենք աշխատանքը չենք ավարտում տասն օրում։ We do not finish the work in ten days.
 
 
 
The locative case can also be formed by placing the word "մեջ" after the word in the genitive case. This form of the locative is frequently used with animate objects.
 
1) Այս գրքի մեջ շատ նկարներ կան։ There are many pictures in this book.
 
2) Այս աղջկա մեջ մեծ հույս կա։ There is great hope inside this girl.
 
 
One oft-encountered exception to this rule is in the case of “home/տուն,” which becomes “տանը” to express “in home/at home.”
 
1) Դու ապրում ես քո պապիկի տանը։ You live at your grandfather’s house.
 
2) Նա իր շանը պահում է մեր տանը։ She keep her dog at our home.
 
 
 
There are a few cases where we would expect to use the locative case because we use the preposition “in” in English, but instead we use the “ին/ը” ending described previously.
 
1) Աղջիկը ձեռքին տիկնիկ ունի: The girl has a doll in her hand.
 
2) Նրա աչքերին արտասուք կա: There are tears in her eyes.
 
3) Նա չի ցանկանում լողալ այս ցրտին: He doesn’t want to swim in this cold.
