Hi Central Kurdish learners! 😊
In this lesson, we are going to learn the days of the week in Central Kurdish. Knowing these words is important for daily conversation, scheduling appointments, and many other aspects of daily life. Plus, it's always helpful to impress native speakers by knowing local expressions!
Days of the Week
Central Kurdish has a five-day workweek. The weekend consists of Friday and Saturday, like in other Middle Eastern countries.
Here are the days of the week in Central Kurdish:

As you can see, the days of the week in Central Kurdish are quite straightforward, with most of them ending in "ەممە" (emme) which means "day" in Kurdish.
Here is an example dialogue so you can see these words in context:
- Person 1: سڵاو، ئەمەش چا کەوتوو پێدرا؟ (Slaw, emeş ca kevotuw pedera?) (Hello, how was your day today?)
- Person 2: چەم جوان دا دۆكتۆریە، بەجۆرمی دوو شەممە دۆزیم. تۆ چی کرتی پێدرای؟ (Chem jawan da doktoriye, bejormi du şemame dozim. To chi krti pedray?) (I am young, a doctor, I work two days a week. What about you?)
One thing to note is that talking about Friday is a sensitive topic in Iraq, Kurdistan, and other Muslim countries because it is the day of worship in Islam. So, it's best to be mindful of this when engaging in conversation.
