Gujarati Grammar - Conditional Mood

Hi Gujarati learners! 😊
In today's lesson, we will be discussing the conditional mood in Gujarati. The conditional mood is used to express a hypothetical situation or an event that may or may not happen in the future. It is also used to express wishes and desires.

Overview

The conditional mood in Gujarati is formed by adding the suffixes -એ, -વું, -વે, -વુંથી, -વુંથાં, -વુંથીએ, -વુંથીને, -વુંથીનું, -વુંથીનેવાળો, -વુંથીનુંવાળો, -વુંથીનેવાળ્યું, -વુંથીનુંવાળ્યું to the verb stem.

Formation

The suffixes are added to the verb stem depending on the person and number of the subject.

  • For the first person singular (I), the suffix -એ is added.
  • For the second person singular (you), the suffix -વું is added.
  • For the third person singular (he/she/it), the suffix -વે is added.
  • For the first person plural (we), the suffix -વુંથી is added.
  • For the second person plural (you), the suffix -વુંથાં is added.
  • For the third person plural (they), the suffix -વુંથીએ is added.

Usage

The conditional mood is used to express a hypothetical situation or an event that may or may not happen in the future. It is also used to express wishes and desires.

For example:

  • If I had more time, I would go for a walk. (મને વધુ સમય હોય તો મને પગલું જાવું હતું.)
  • I wish I could fly. (મને ઉડીયું હતું તો અચૂક રહ્યું.)
  • If I had enough money, I would buy a car. (મને પૂરું પરિશ્રમ હોય તો મને કાર ખરીદી હતી.)
