Indo-Portuguese Grammar - Conditional Mood

Hi Indo-Portuguese learners! 😊
In today's lesson, we will be exploring the conditional mood in Indo-Portuguese. We will look at how to form sentences in the conditional mood, as well as some examples of its use. By the end of this lesson, you will have a better understanding of the conditional mood and how to use it in your own conversations.

Forming Sentences in the Conditional Mood

The conditional mood is used to express a hypothetical situation or an action that is dependent on another action. In Indo-Portuguese, the conditional mood is formed by using the verb "iria" (would) followed by the infinitive form of the verb. For example:

  • Eu iria comer - I would eat
  • Ela iria falar - She would speak

It is important to note that the verb "iria" must agree with the subject of the sentence in terms of gender and number. For example:

  • Nós iríamos comer - We would eat
  • Eles iriam falar - They would speak

Examples

Here are some examples of sentences in the conditional mood:

  • Se eu tivesse tempo, eu iria viajar - If I had time, I would travel
  • Se ela tivesse dinheiro, ela iria comprar um carro - If she had money, she would buy a car
  • Se nós tivéssemos mais tempo, nós iríamos estudar mais - If we had more time, we would study more
  • Se eles tivessem mais dinheiro, eles iriam comprar uma casa - If they had more money, they would buy a house
