Vivre d’amour et d’eau fraiche

  • Literally: to live on love and fresh water
  • Meaning: to be in love and not care about anything else
  • Example: Depuis qu'il l'a rencontré, il vit d'amour et d'eau fraiche.

Avoir un coup de foudre

  • Litteraly: a struck of lightning
  • Meaning: To fall in love at first sight
  • Example: Sa rencontre avec elle a été un vrai coup de foudre (When he met her, it was love at first sight)

Qui trop embrasse mal étreint

  • Litteraly: he that too much embraceth, holds little
  • Meaning: If you undertake too many things at once, you risk failure. It can be translated by "Do not bite off more than you can chew"
  • Example: Tu devrais te concentrer sur un seul sujet : qui trop embrasse mal étreint (you should focus on one subject. Do not bite off more than you can chew)

Mon cœur bat la chamade

  • Meaning: My heart is beating wildly
  • Example: Quand je l'ai rencontrée, mon cœur batait la chamade (when I met her my heart was beating widly)

Loin des yeux, loin du coeur

The distance of two people weakens the affection they have for each other.

Avoir une chance de cocu

To be very lucky

Heureux au jeu, malheureux en amour

We cannot succeed in the game and love. (This proverb is an equivalence in the popular phrase "avoir une chance de cocu").
