What is the Conditional Mood?[edit | edit source]
The conditional mood is used to express a hypothetical situation or a condition that must be fulfilled in order for something else to happen. It is often used to express wishes, requests, and possibilities.
In Assamese, the conditional mood is formed by adding the suffix -āϤ⧠to the verb stem. For example, the verb stem āĻāϰ (to do) becomes āĻāϰāϤ⧠(would do).
Examples of the Conditional Mood[edit | edit source]

Other Uses of the Conditional Mood[edit | edit source]
The conditional mood can also be used to express politeness. For example, if you want to ask someone to do something, you can use the conditional mood to make your request sound more polite.
For example, instead of saying "āĻāĻŽāĻŋ āϤā§āĻŽāĻžāĻā§ āĻāĻ āĻāĻžāĻ āĻāϰāϤ⧠āĻĻāĻŋāĻŦā§āύ" (I will ask you to do this job), you can say "āĻāĻŽāĻŋ āϤā§āĻŽāĻžāĻā§ āĻāĻ āĻāĻžāĻ āĻāϰāϤ⧠āĻĻāĻŋāϤ⧠āĻāĻžāĻ" (I would like you to do this job).
