Southern Uzbek Grammar - Future Tense

Hi Southern Uzbek learners! 😊
In this lesson, we will learn about the future tense in Southern Uzbek. The future tense is used to talk about actions that will happen in the future or intentions. In order to form the future tense in Southern Uzbek, we will need to use the auxiliary verb "bo'l-".

Formation[edit | edit source]

To form the future tense, we will need to use the auxiliary verb "bo'l-" in the base form + the infinitive of the main verb. The formula is as follows:

"bo'l-" + [infinitive of the verb]

Let's take the example of the verb "yom-on" which means "to eat". In order to form the future tense, we will add "bo'l-" to the base form "yom-" and then add the infinitive marker "-on". The result is: "yom-on bo'l-". This construction means "will eat".

Here are some examples of the future tense in Southern Uzbek:

Southern Uzbek Pronunciation English
Men yaxshi ko'raman bo'lishini umid qilaman [men yaʁʃi koʔraman boʔliʃini umid qilaman] I hope to be well
Biz yarim soatdan so'ng yurishga boshlaymiz [biz jaɾim soʊtdan soʔŋ juɾiʃga boʃlaɛmiz] We will start walking after half an hour
U yarim soat ichida Borovimizni anyk bo'ladi [u jaɾim soʊt itʃida boɾoviɛmizni anik boʔladi] He will find out where we are staying within half an hour

Dialogue[edit | edit source]

Person 1: Nima qilasan? (What are you going to do?) Person 2: Bugun dam olishga boraman. (I'm going to go fishing today.)

Person 1: Qachondan kechirasiz? (What time are you going to wake up?) Person 2: Ertaga to'rtinchi soatda. (Tomorrow at 4 a.m.)

Person 1: Qanday qabul qilasiz? (How are you going to receive it?) Person 2: Albatta, ruxsat qilaman. (Of course, I will allow it.)

Usage[edit | edit source]

The future tense is used when we want to talk about actions that will happen in the future, predictions or intentions. It can also be used to express polite requests or orders. For example: "Misol uchun, mening yo'qotilgan kitobimni yoza olasizmi?" which means "Can you write my lost book for example?".
