Hi Omani Arabic learners! ๐Ÿ˜Š
In this lesson, we will focus on adjectives in Omani Arabic. Adjectives are words that describe, modify or quantify a noun or pronoun. For example, in the sentence "The red car is fast", "red" is the adjective that describes the car.

Adjectives in Omani Arabic[edit | edit source]

In Omani Arabic, adjectives typically come after the noun they modify. This is different from English, where the adjective typically comes before the noun.

Examples:

Omani Arabic Pronunciation English
ุณูŽูŠูŽุงุฑูŽุฉ ุญูŽู…ู’ุฑูŽุง sayara hamra red car
ุจูŽูŠู’ุช ูƒูŽุจููŠุฑ bayt kabeer big house

In Omani Arabic, adjectives agree in gender and number with the noun they modify. This means that if the noun is feminine, then the adjective should be feminine too, and if the noun is plural, then the adjective should be plural too.

Examples:

Omani Arabic Pronunciation English
ุจูู†ู’ุช ุตูŽุบููŠุฑูŽุฉ bint sagheera small girl
ุจูู†ูŽุงุช ุตูŽุบููŠุฑูŽุงุช banaat sagheeraat small girls

Comparative and Superlative[edit | edit source]

In English, comparative and superlative forms of adjectives are formed by adding "-er" and "-est" respectively. In Omani Arabic, this concept is expressed by using the words "ุฒูŽูŠู’ุฏ" (zayd) for comparative and "ุฃูŽูƒู’ุซูŽุฑ" (akthar) for superlative.

Examples:

Omani Arabic Pronunciation English
