Let's start with some basic vocabulary. As always, feel free to repeat after me!

Now, let's explore some more complex vocabulary to describe feelings and emotions.
Feeling happy[edit | edit source]
Being happy is a great feeling and it's even better when you can express it in Judeo-Iraqi Arabic!

- Person 1: آآآه يَا جَـمْـاعَة! الْوَاحِد شَـوْ شُـعُـورَتِـه لَمَّـا يِـشُـوْفَـهَـا. (Aah yā jamāʿah! Alwāḥid shu shuʿūratihi lammā yišūfahā.) (Aah folks! One's feeling when they see her.)
- Person 2: وَاللَّـه مَادِرِي وْشْ يَـصْـيِـــر. أَصْـابِـح وَأَعِـيَـــــــــــــــــــــــرَام. (Wallāh mādiri wš yasīr. Aṣābih waʾayāmarām.) (I don't know what will happen. I'll be up all night.)
Feeling sad[edit | edit source]
Unfortunately, not all feelings are positive. Here are some words to use when you're feeling down.

وَبَـكِـي | wabakī | crying |
- Person 1: شَـعُـرْت بِـحُـزْنٍ الْيَوْم. نَاس مَتْتِرْكَ تْبِيْـتَهُـم. (Šaʿurt biḥuznin alyawm. Nās mattirka tbītahum.) (I felt sad today. People left their homes.)
- Person 2: بِـالْعَـكْـس، الْيَوْم كُـــلَّـي أَفْـرَاح. بَلْــــدِـي والْحَـمْـدِللَّـه في فَخْـرٍ وشَـــمُـوخٍ. (Bilʿaks, alyawm kullī afrāḥ. Baladī walḥamdu lillāh fī faḫrin wašamūkhin.) (On the contrary, it's a great day. My country is proud and triumphant.)
Feeling stressed[edit | edit source]
Feeling stressed is something that happens to all of us. Here's how to describe it in Judeo-Iraqi Arabic:

- Person 1: شَـعُـرْت بِـقَـلِـقٍ شــــديد هَالأِيَّام. (Šaʿurt biqaliqin šadīd haalyaam.) (I've been extremely anxious these days.)
- Person 2: يَــا بَطْـنِـي لَا تِـــفْـقَــدَــــيَـنِـي. مَا بْـــعْـــرَف وُشْ يَـصْـيِـــــــــر. (Yā baṭnī lā tifqadīnī. Mā baraf waš yasīr.) (Oh my stomach, don't leave me. I don't know what will happen.)
Expressing emotions[edit | edit source]
Now that you know the vocabulary, it's time to learn how to express these emotions. Here are some examples.
- أَنَا سَـعِـيد! (Anā saʿīd!) - I am happy!
- لَـسْـتُ مَسْـتَـمْتِـع! (Lastu mustamtiʿ!) - I am not enjoying it!
- شَكْرًا، أَنَا مَبْـسُوط! (Šakran, anā mabṣūṭ!) - thank you, I am content!
- إِنْــــــسَـان يَـــاأَيـــَّـــام! (Insān yaʾayyām!) - oh, life!
- لَيْـسَـتْ حَالِـي جَيِّـدَة. (Laysat ḥālī jayyidah.) - I am not doing well.
