The Gothic language is an extinct language belonging to the East Germanic group, and it was spoken by the Goths. The Gothic alphabet was created by Bishop Wulfila in the 4th century, and it is the earliest Germanic alphabet that has been discovered. In this lesson, we will learn about the Gothic alphabet and pronunciation.

Alphabet[edit | edit source]

The Gothic alphabet has 27 letters, which are similar to the Latin alphabet. However, there are a few differences, including some letters that are unique to Gothic. Here is the Gothic alphabet:

The letters h, รž, and x are unique to Gothic and are not found in the Latin alphabet. The letter รž represents the "th" sound as in "think," and the letter x represents the "ks" sound as in "fox."

The Gothic language has a few sounds that are different from modern English. Here is a guide to Gothic pronunciation:

It is important to note that the pronunciation of Gothic is based on the reconstructed language, and there may be some variations in pronunciation depending on the source.
