China Buriat Grammar - Future Tense

Hi China Buriat learners! 😊
In this lesson, we will be learning about the future tense in China Buriat. We will also include some cultural information and interesting facts to make the lesson more enjoyable.

Introduction[edit | edit source]

The future tense is used to describe an action that will occur in the future. In China Buriat, the future tense is formed by adding a suffix to the infinitive form of a verb.

Future Suffix[edit | edit source]

The future suffix in China Buriat is "-ra". Therefore, to form the future tense, simply append "-ra" to the infinitive form of a verb. For example:

сарадaxа sa-ra-dax-a I will eat
барадaxа ba-ra-dax-a You will eat
һарардaxа harar-dax-a He/She will eat
барһарһардaxа bar-har-har-dax-a We will eat
манай һарһардaxа manai har-har-dax-a You all will eat
һарардардaxа harar-dar-dax-a They will eat

As you can see from the example above, the suffix "-ra" is added to the infinitive form of the verb "daxa", which means "to eat".

Future with Time Expressions[edit | edit source]

In China Buriat, the future tense is often used with time expressions to indicate when the action will occur. Common time expressions include:

  • Үжиндэ. (ujindэ) - Tomorrow
  • Үхээдэ. (ukheede) - Day after tomorrow
  • Долоо хоногт. (doloo khonogt) - In a week
  • Сардэ. (sarde) - Next month
  • Жилдэ. (zhilde) - Next year

Example Dialogue[edit | edit source]

  • Person 1: Эрдэнийн тогоочоор машиныг улгасдагба? (Erdeniin togoochor mashiniig ulgasa-dag-ba?) (Will the mechanic fix the car?)
  • Person 2: Тиймээс, машиныг улгара. Үжиндэ өгөхөөр болно. (Tiimees, mashiniig ulgara. Ujindэ ogohoo bolno.) (Yes, he will fix the car. It will be ready by tomorrow.)
